Will run like greased lightning

Six months from now, the employees in the oil company Front Exploration will be at the starting line of the Midnight Sun Marathon.
They have just started their training, and the first objective is to get the mental aspects in place

”If you are to run a distance in the Midnight Sun Marathon in June, we have to start the preparations now. My job in the start of the training will actually be to hold you back. If you start ”from scratch”, the workout should be max 45 minutes. During these sessions you should alter between running and walking. And, by all means; do not think about timing in the start!”
This was how John Pedersen introduced the kick off for the employees in the oil company Front Exploration, the sponsor of the marathon-distance in the Midnight Sun Marathon.
Now, 14 of 22 employees in Front Exploration has made it their goal to stand at the starting line June 30th, and the long road to get there started today.
To help along the way, they have engaged Magnar Slåtto from iSporet ski school and the experienced marathon runner John Pedersen. Once a week the employees will meet for joint training, and along the way they will receive advice about exercise, nutrition and equipment from Slåtto and Pedersen.

Think long-term

The first day it was neither pulse nor condition that was on the schedule, but the appropriate mental attitude. As an example for the aspiring marathon-runners from Front Exploration, Slåtto and Pedersen had brought with them Morgan Lillegård, who just a couple a years ago trained up to run his very first marathon.
”Think long-term, be patient, and define milestones along the way. This way you will have much fun in store. When you finally get there, and see the stadium, all the pain and agony will be forgotten. It’s a fantastic feeling when you run those last meters towards the finishing line”, said Lillegård.

As exploring for oil

Front Exploration and Midnight Sun Marathon has been cooperating since 2006, and the group of runners from the oil company is a part of this cooperation.
CEO of Front Exploration, Yngve Vassmyr, who himself will be standing on the start line in June, says that marathon runners and oil companies has a lot in common.
”To reach the finishing line we need knowledge and patience, and we know that it will be slumps towards the big goal far ahead. This applies whether you are going to find oil in the Barents Sea and Norwegian Sea, or you are about to start from scratch and become a marathon runner”, says Vassmyr.
